OSP removes Ken Ofori-Atta from list of wanted persons

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially removed former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from its list of wanted persons. This decision follows a communication from Ofori-Atta’s legal team, confirming his voluntary return to Ghana in May 2025.

In a letter dated February 18, 2025, Ofori-Atta’s lawyers informed the OSP of his scheduled return between May 14 and 30, after undergoing a medical procedure abroad. They stated that he requires a recovery period of six to eight weeks post-surgery. The OSP considered this timeline reasonable and has rescheduled his appearance accordingly.

The OSP had previously declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive on February 12, 2025, due to his failure to indicate a return date amid investigations into alleged financial misconduct during his tenure. The allegations involve several high-profile cases, including the Strategic Mobilization-GRA contract, termination of the ECG-BXC contract, payments related to the National Cathedral project, procurement of ambulances, and utilization of the Tax Refund Account.

While Ofori-Atta is no longer considered a fugitive, the OSP has emphasized that if he fails to return as agreed or does not attend the rescheduled interview, he will be reinstated on the wanted list and all necessary legal measures will be taken to secure his appearance.

This development underscores the OSP’s commitment to due process and accountability in addressing allegations of corruption and related offenses.
