I thank God that I’m still alive – Kofi Adoma

Ghanaian journalist and media personality Kofi Adoma Nwanwani has publicly addressed the traumatic incident that left him with a severe eye injury, expressing deep gratitude for his survival. The incident occurred in December 2024 during the Dormaa Kwafie festival in the Bono Region, where Adoma was accidentally struck in the face by gunpowder residue from a musket being fired, resulting in significant damage to his eyes and necessitating multiple surgeries.

In his first public statement since the accident, Adoma reflected on the ordeal, acknowledging the proximity to potential tragedy. He expressed profound gratitude for being given a second chance at life, recognizing how close he came to a fatal outcome.

Adoma also revealed the ongoing challenges in his recovery, mentioning severe pain and constant headaches that have made rest and sleep difficult, despite multiple medical treatments. He emphasized the urgency of sharing his story, fearing that his condition might worsen: “I want to talk before anything happens. I’m in severe pain with my head aching badly, but I need to speak out before anything happens.”

The incident has sparked discussions about safety protocols during cultural festivals, especially those involving traditional musketry. Adoma’s experience underscores the need for stringent safety measures to protect participants and spectators during such events.

As he continues his recovery, Adoma’s resilience and gratitude serve as a poignant reminder of life’s fragility and the importance of cherishing each moment. The media fraternity and the public have expressed unwavering support, wishing him a swift and full recovery.
