Voting underway in Ablekuma North re-run as voters turn out early

Voting has commenced in 19 polling stations across the Ablekuma North Constituency as the Electoral Commission (EC) conducts a re-run to determine the winner of the disputed parliamentary seat.

At the Methodist Church Odokor (1) polling station, the Presiding Officer confirmed that as of 7:58 a.m., 22 out of the 464 registered voters had cast their ballots.
Reports from other centres also indicate a steady turnout, with voters arriving early to participate in the exercise.

The two parliamentary candidates, National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Ewurabena Aubynn and New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, have been sighted at various voting centres engaging with constituents and observing the process, in what has so far been a peaceful and orderly re-run.

The re-run follows a contentious outcome in the December 2024 general election, during which the results for the Ablekuma North parliamentary seat were fiercely contested by the NPP and the NDC.

Allegations of irregularities and inconsistencies in vote tabulation led to several petitions and calls for a review.

After months of political tension and stakeholder dialogue, the EC resolved to re-run the election in 19 polling stations, where discrepancies were deemed significant enough to potentially alter the overall outcome.
The constituency has since been without a sitting Member of Parliament, pending the outcome of today’s vote.
