On Thursday, May 1, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama officially launched the Black Star Experience, a flagship cultural and tourism initiative aimed at establishing Ghana as Africa’s leading destination for arts, heritage, and entertainment.
The Black Star Experience is designed as a year-round celebration encompassing various facets of Ghanaian culture, including festivals, music, film, fashion, cuisine, and more. Key events planned under this initiative include Pan African Month, Ghana Film Festival and Awards, Ghana Music World, Culinary Month, and Fashion and Textiles Month.
President Mahama emphasized that the initiative is not merely about branding but about reclaiming Ghana's narrative and projecting a bold new vision of the country as vibrant, proud, and unstoppable. He highlighted the importance of investing in Ghana's cultural and creative sectors to unlock their vast potential.
The launch event, held at the Freedom & Justice Monument in Accra, was attended by dignitaries, creatives, and international media. The Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Dzifa Gomashie, noted that the Black Star Experience is designed to move the nation's creative impulses and culture from the fringes to the center of national development.
The initiative also aims to create jobs and empower millions of young Ghanaians, particularly women, by unlocking opportunities in the creative and tourism industries, nurturing entrepreneurship and innovation, and creating sustainable livelihoods.
Through the Black Star Experience, Ghana seeks to redefine how the world sees the country and how Ghanaians see themselves, positioning Ghana as the cultural and creative heartbeat of Africa.
