NDC denies taking money from NSB, dares Adu-Boahene to name parties allegedly funded with GH¢8m

NDC Presses Former NSB Boss to Name Opposition Parties Allegedly Funded with GH¢8m in 2024

The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is demanding clarity and accountability from Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), following explosive claims that over GH¢8.3 million was spent on logistics for an opposition party ahead of the 2024 general elections.

In a memo that has since gone public, Adu-Boahene alleged that funds from the NSB were used to procure “communications equipment” and support election collation operations for unnamed opposition groups. The NDC has now challenged him to reveal the identities of these parties and provide documentary evidence.

“Mr. Adu-Boahene must stop the shadow games and name the so-called opposition parties he claims received these huge sums,” an NDC spokesperson said.
“This is a serious matter of national interest and cannot be left hanging in ambiguity.”

Memo Sparks Political Firestorm

The memo, addressed to the National Security Coordinator, also accuses the Attorney General of pursuing a malicious prosecution against Adu-Boahene. He is currently under investigation and was recently remanded by an Accra High Court to EOCO custody to allow completion of witness statements.

The document outlines various expenditures allegedly sanctioned under his leadership at the NSB, including:

  • GH¢8.3 million for election-related logistics
  • Nearly GH¢1 million in payments to Members of Parliament for passing security-related legislation

These claims have prompted widespread public scrutiny, with critics demanding a full parliamentary probe into potential misuse of national security funds.

NDC Demands Full Transparency

The NDC, now under the administration of President John Mahama, insists that it has no knowledge or record of receiving such funds and views the claims as an attempt to deflect accountability and politicize the legal process.

“If Mr. Adu-Boahene believes in transparency, he must come clean and present verifiable facts,” the party said in a statement on Friday.

The party has also urged the Attorney General’s Department to remain focused and pursue the case without fear or favor.

Calls for Independent Investigation

Several civil society groups and opposition voices have joined the call for an independent investigation to uncover the full extent of NSB expenditures in the lead-up to the 2024 elections. There are growing concerns over the potential politicization of national security resources and financial irregularities within the intelligence community.

Conclusion: High Stakes for Accountability and Public Trust

As the fallout from the memo continues, pressure is mounting on both the government and the intelligence establishment to ensure transparency, accountability, and protection of public funds. The NDC’s demand for disclosure could be the beginning of a broader reckoning within Ghana’s national security operations.
