Hon. Mavis Kuukua Bissue Engages German Ambassador to Ghana …

Accra, Ghana – In a historic and forward-looking diplomatic engagement, Honourable Mavis Kuukua Bissue, Member of Parliament for Ahanta West, visited the German Embassy in Accra to meet with His Excellency Daniel Krull, the German Ambassador to Ghana. The meeting marks the beginning of a series of planned strategic engagements aimed at building lasting partnerships to drive development across the Ahanta West constituency and beyond.

Rekindling a 400-Year-Old Historical Bond Between Ahanta and Germany

Hon. Bissue’s meeting with Ambassador Krull was not only symbolic but deeply rooted in the rich and complex history shared between the people of Ahanta and Germany. She reflected on the longstanding historical ties that date back over four centuries, highlighting that in 1682, German traders from Brandenburg-Prussia signed a friendship treaty with the Ahanta people. This partnership led to the construction of two significant trading forts:

  • Fort Gross Fredericksburg in Princess Town
  • Fort Dorothea in Ezile (modern-day Akwidaa)

Though that shared history includes both collaboration and colonial complexity, Hon. Bissue emphasized her commitment to reframe that legacy into one of opportunity and mutual growth for the people of Ahanta.

Vision for Ahanta West: Language, Tourism, and Jobs

The discussion with Ambassador Krull centered around several critical areas of development, each tailored to unlock the vast potential within Ahanta West:

1. Ahanta Language in Schools

Hon. Bissue shared details of a transformative education initiative aimed at preserving and promoting the Ahanta language in local schools. Language preservation is central to cultural identity, and this project seeks to integrate the Ahanta language into the basic education curriculum to safeguard heritage and empower future generations.

2. Tourism Development in Ahanta West

Ahanta West boasts a rich tapestry of natural beauty, historical landmarks, and cultural attractions. The conversation explored strategic ways Germany could support the development of the constituency’s tourism sector, especially around historical sites like Fort Gross Fredericksburg, pristine beaches, and eco-tourism spots.

Tourism, Hon. Bissue noted, has the power to drive economic activity, community pride, and global cultural exchange.

3. Investment and Youth Employment

With Ghana's youth unemployment on the rise, Hon. Bissue and Ambassador Krull discussed investment opportunities in key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, renewable energy, and infrastructure development. These initiatives are designed to create sustainable jobs and support entrepreneurship among the vibrant youth population in Ahanta West.

Strengthening Ghana-Germany Diplomatic Ties

Hon. Bissue reaffirmed her belief in strategic international partnerships as a vehicle for local development. She emphasized that Germany's support can play a significant role in shaping a new future for Ahanta—one that is forward-thinking, inclusive, and rooted in shared values.

“Even though our shared past may not be the best, I am determined as Member of Parliament to reconnect and establish new partnerships for mutual benefits,” she said.

An Invitation to Ahanta West

To cement this growing relationship, Hon. Bissue extended a warm and formal invitation to Ambassador Daniel Krull to visit Ahanta West. She expressed hope that such a visit would open up deeper collaboration opportunities and give the Ambassador a firsthand view of the region’s development potential, hospitality, and untapped resources.

She also conveyed the heartfelt welcome of the Chiefs and people of Ahanta, who are eager to work with partners like Germany to co-create the Ahanta we envision for future generations.

Looking Ahead

This meeting represents just the first in a series of planned engagements by Hon. Bissue with local and international stakeholders committed to meaningful development. With a clear vision for education, heritage preservation, tourism, and economic empowerment, she remains focused on turning Ahanta West into a model constituency for growth and resilience.
