Sam George: Over 91,000 apply for coding programme

The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has revealed the overwhelming response to the One Million Coders Programme, with a staggering 91,847 applications received so far.

Speaking on the initiative during its launch in Accra on Wednesday, April 16, George highlighted the enthusiasm of Ghanaians for the programme, which aims to equip young people with essential digital skills.

He noted, “Mr. President, we planned to do the pilot with 260 students, but within the first four hours of announcing, we had over 4,000 applications. We decided to do a double track and do 520.”

George noted that as of this morning, the number of applications had surged to 91,847, underscoring the visionary nature of President Mahama’s plan to transform Ghana’s digital ecosystem.

“As at this morning about 30 minutes ago the number of applications we have received is 91,847 applications. this speaks to the visionary nature of your plan and vision to transform our digital eco system.”

The One Million Coders Programme is a flagship initiative designed to train Ghanaians in coding, artificial intelligence, and other digital technologies, positioning the country as a leader in the global digital economy. The overwhelming response reflects the eagerness of Ghanaians to embrace opportunities in the tech-driven world.
