Speaker grants permission for NIB to question A Plus, Mustapha Yussif

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has agreed, in principle, to a request to release two Members of Parliament (MPs) – Mustapha Yussif, the MP for Yagaba Kubori, and Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), the MP for Gomoa Central – for an official meeting with security officials.

In response, the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, acting on behalf of the Speaker, emphasized the importance of observing Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution, which safeguard parliamentary privileges concerning the arrest or questioning of MPs.

He also highlighted the established protocols between Parliament and the security services, alongside the need to consider the public’s interest in the matter, in reaching this decision.

Accordingly, the Speaker has instructed that the two MPs make themselves available for an initial meeting with security officials on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 am, at the Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room, located in the Office of the Speaker.

Additionally, the Speaker has mandated that the MPs bring their legal representatives with them to ensure their legal rights are upheld during the meeting.

Security personnel have been advised to coordinate with Parliament’s Legal Services Office upon their arrival to facilitate the process.

While the specific charges or issues surrounding the MPs remain unclear, this development demonstrates Parliament’s dedication to upholding the law, while ensuring that the rights and privileges of its members are safeguarded.
