I was thrown to the backbench like a first-time MP after my removal – Adwoa Safo

Former Deputy Majority Leader, Adwoa Safo, has expressed disappointment over how she was treated after being removed from her leadership position in Parliament.

She revealed that she was moved to the backbench like a first-time MP, in what she described as a breach of parliamentary convention.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, the Dome-Kwabenya MP stated that traditionally, former Majority or Minority Leaders are allocated seats directly behind the current leadership in Parliament.

However, she said that this convention was not followed in her case.

“Everybody denied involvement in the action. The Majority Whip is responsible for seating arrangements, so how did he not know that I was not properly allocated a seat?” she questioned on Tuesday, March 18.

She recounted how her situation was eventually rectified after the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, and Deputy Majority Leader, Habib Iddrisu, intervened.

According to her, their efforts led to her being restored to a seat behind the leadership.
