Mahama appoints Nii Lantey Vanderpuye as National Coordinator for DRIP

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, as the National Coordinator for the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP). This strategic move places Vanderpuye at the forefront of enhancing Ghana’s road infrastructure, a critical component of national development.

Launched in July 2024 by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, DRIP aims to upgrade road networks across all 276 constituencies. The initiative provides Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with essential resources and machinery to facilitate effective road maintenance and construction. By decentralizing infrastructure development, DRIP empowers local authorities to undertake vital road projects efficiently and transparently.

Vanderpuye, known for his strong advocacy for transparency and accountability in government-led infrastructure projects, is expected to oversee DRIP’s implementation. His role involves close collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure the program’s objectives are met. Expressing gratitude for the opportunity, Vanderpuye emphasized the importance of road infrastructure as a driver of development. He pledged to work diligently to ensure significant progress in Ghana’s district road networks, focusing on improving accessibility, safety, and overall transportation in both rural and urban communities.

The government views this appointment as a crucial step in addressing the longstanding challenges of poor road conditions, which have hindered economic activities and mobility in many parts of the country. With Vanderpuye at the helm, there is optimism for substantial improvements in the nation’s road infrastructure, ultimately boosting local economies and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
