Agona Nkwanta Police Arrest Ex-Convict Over Alleged Rape and Murder of 17-Year-Old Girl

The Agona Nkwanta District Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, identified as Kudjo Ntow, for his alleged involvement in the rape and murder of Olivia Kwofie, a 17-year-old girl from Agona Nkwanta in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.

According to a news release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Regional Police Command, the suspect, who is reported to be an ex-convict, was arrested following a swift intelligence-led operation after allegedly committing the crime and going into hiding.

Disturbing Early Morning Incident

Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the incident occurred on June 1, 2026, at about 3:30 a.m.

According to the police report, a resident, Samuel Kingsford Kwofie, was on his way to his rubber plantation when he heard someone crying out for help near the School B area, close to the Ghana National Fire Service Station at Agona Nkwanta.

Concerned by the cries, he moved toward the scene and made a shocking discovery. He reportedly found the victim, Olivia Kwofie, sitting naked on the ground with both her hands and legs tied with a rope.

Mr. Kwofie immediately untied the teenager and attempted to escort her to the nearby police station to seek assistance and report the incident.

Suspect Allegedly Launches Violent Attack

However, while they were making their way to the police station, the suspect allegedly emerged from behind and launched a violent attack on them.

Police say the suspect struck the victim with a cement block before fleeing the scene. The sudden attack left the victim severely injured.

Upon receiving information about the incident, police officers quickly proceeded to the scene where they found Olivia lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries and cuts to her face.

The victim was rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Polyclinic for emergency medical treatment. Despite efforts by health professionals to save her life, she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

Police Launch Manhunt

Following the incident, the Agona Nkwanta District Police Command, working together with the Regional Police Intelligence Team, launched an intensive investigation and manhunt for the suspect.

Their efforts paid off on June 2, 2026, when the suspect was tracked down and arrested at his hideout in Nsuaem.

Police say the arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the investigation and demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement officers to ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes.

Court Proceedings

The suspect was arraigned before the Apollo Circuit Court in Takoradi on June 3, 2026.

After hearing the case, the court remanded Kudjo Ntow into prison custody. He is expected to reappear before the court on June 17, 2026, as investigations continue.

Community Shocked

The tragic death of Olivia Kwofie has sent shockwaves through Agona Nkwanta and neighboring communities, with many residents expressing grief and outrage over the incident.

Residents have called for justice for the deceased teenager while commending the police for the swift arrest of the suspect.

Meanwhile, the Western Regional Police Command has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that every effort will be made to ensure the law takes its full course.

As the case proceeds through the courts, family members, friends, and residents of Agona Nkwanta continue to mourn the loss of the young girl whose life was cut short under tragic circumstances.
