Israel Vows Full Control Over Gaza Amid Humanitarian Crisis and Military Escalation

On May 19, 2025, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel would assert full control over the Gaza Strip, intensifying military operations against Hamas. This declaration came alongside the initiation of “Operation Gideon’s Chariots,” a comprehensive offensive involving air, land, and sea forces aimed at dismantling Hamas’s infrastructure and securing the release of hostages.

Netanyahu emphasized the necessity of this action, stating, “The fighting is intense and we are making progress. We will take control of all the territory of the Strip.” He further stressed that success required decisive and unstoppable measures.

In response to mounting international pressure and concerns over a looming famine in Gaza, Israel agreed to permit limited humanitarian aid into the territory. Netanyahu acknowledged that images of mass hunger were influencing global support, noting that even Israel’s closest allies found such scenes intolerable.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza has deteriorated significantly, with extensive damage to infrastructure and widespread displacement. Aid organizations have criticized the limited scope of relief efforts and the conditions under which aid is being delivered.

As the conflict escalates, ceasefire negotiations remain stalled, and the international community continues to call for increased aid and a resolution to prevent further loss of life and suffering.
