🛡️ ACP Benjamin Agordzo: New Roles and Responsibilities as DCOP

Following his reinstatement and promotion to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), ACP (rtd.) Benjamin Kwasi Agordzo will assume a range of strategic duties aimed at strengthening the Ghana Police Service and restoring public confidence.


1. Leadership in the Police Transformation Agenda

  • As a former head of the Police Transformation Agenda Office, Agordzo will continue to drive the modernization of the service—including e-policing, digital case filing, and fingerprint digitization—nationwide.
  • Under his leadership, the GPS aims to become a top-tier organization in Africa within the leader’s stated transition plan.

2. Human Resources Oversight & Strategic Capacity Building

  • Previously appointed Head of Human Resources at the National Security Council, Agordzo brings extensive personnel and strategic planning expertise.
  • As DCOP, he’ll oversee HR policy within the police, promote talent development, and ensure transparent promotion processes across ranks.

3. Support to Senior Command & Policy Execution

  • Reporting directly to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Agordzo will help implement critical policy decisions in coordination with the Policing Management Board.
  • He is expected to coordinate with other DCOPs and COPs who lead specialized units like CID, Research & Planning, and Service Workshop.

4. Institutional Reforms & Promotion Transparency Advocate

  • Known as a vocal critic of opaque promotion systems, Agordzo has publicly urged the police service to overhaul its awards and promotion protocols for fairness and clarity.
  • In his new role, he may influence reforms to improve efficiency and meritocracy across the Service.

5. Operational Mentorship & Public Confidence Restoration

  • With decades of frontline and national-level experience—including coordinating election security and internal investigations—he will:
    • Mentor emerging leaders in the service
    • Promote ethical standards, integrity, and accountability
    • Act as a bridge between the police and civilian stakeholders rebuilding trust
